Going back

                             Echoes of Color cowl

I love the electronic age for sure. Absolutely everything you can think of and more right there on your phone! But lately I've found myself reverting back to paper. For instance I do share an electronic calendar with my husband but I still have my paper planner with all the same things written down as well as to do lists and other notes in them. So I decided to do this with my knitting also.

Beginning September 1st I started using a notebook for knitting. At the beginning of the month I write the month and year and make a list of goal FOs for the month, a list of happy yarny mail that will be coming that month & a wish list of things I'd like to buy that are yarny related. Then daily I write the date along with a few words what was going on that day as well as what I knitted. For example:
MONDAY  17th:
back hurting, school, husband started job at home         Fraternal socks, Basketweave scarf

At the end of the month I made a list of new cast ons I had done for September (Lounging Top, Basketweave scarf & Echoes of Color cowl), along with FO's for September (Jacinta shawl & Echoes of Color cowl). I am loving this so much! I am not artsy so my notebook doesn't look fancy, thus why I'm not posting a picture of it, but I really think it has helped me quite a bit! I can really get a nice overview of what I am working on plus at beginning/end of month assess my knit goals. Does anyone else use a similar method?

What's knitting?

For any that might read this I thought I would share a little bit about me. My name is Lindsey and I live in Arkansas. My family moved here from Illinois about 9 years ago for a job opportunity for my husband. That move also included a change from me working full time to being a full time mom to our then, 3 year old daughter. This was a whole new world for me! Fast forward a bit to us deciding to homeschool her, which would be my job. I eventually settled in for my role as house manager & teacher but something was missing. My day consisted of taking care of all things in the home, teaching my daughter & doing all errands so my husband wasn't burdened with any of that after working all day. I actually loved it, I felt in complete control of my surroundings, but when it came to myself, the only 'fun' I was partaking of was watching my daughter on a playdate next to other moms which I felt I had nothing in common with, and watching tv. I started feeling alot of stress...

Cold Weather Season

Ah! The season is here for wanting to knit big sweaters and pull out that blanket I put away all Summer back out! Granted I live in the South but grew up in Iowa so it never seems that cold here as what I was used to but it is chilly enough that I don't mind having that blanket on my lap as I knit. It's also traveling season for a lot of people. We are traveling north to visit family Thanksgiving week, namely my grandma who doesn't get around great anymore, so that means a lot of projects to keep me company for over a week, I am not a monogamous knitter in the least. As for what I've recently finished, in October I finished 4 projects, the Copenhagen Calling cowl, an infant Barley hat, Rose City Rollers socks and a Basketweave scarf. See my Ravelry page (AlwaysYarnFirst) for all my projects. Here is the cowl, it turned out really well! Check out the pattern by Isabell Kraemer  here. The other thing I am excited about is that I've made my first pair of DK w...
