Cold Weather Season

Ah! The season is here for wanting to knit big sweaters and pull out that blanket I put away all Summer back out! Granted I live in the South but grew up in Iowa so it never seems that cold here as what I was used to but it is chilly enough that I don't mind having that blanket on my lap as I knit. It's also traveling season for a lot of people. We are traveling north to visit family Thanksgiving week, namely my grandma who doesn't get around great anymore, so that means a lot of projects to keep me company for over a week, I am not a monogamous knitter in the least.

As for what I've recently finished, in October I finished 4 projects, the Copenhagen Calling cowl, an infant Barley hat, Rose City Rollers socks and a Basketweave scarf. See my Ravelry page (AlwaysYarnFirst) for all my projects. Here is the cowl, it turned out really well! Check out the pattern by Isabell Kraemer here.

The other thing I am excited about is that I've made my first pair of DK weight socks. Since I am still a newbie sock knitter I wanted a pattern I could follow for DK at least the first time. I found a great pattern by Sarah Eichhorn called Community Socks, they are ankle socks, cuff down and it is a free pattern! It went so fast! They are so warm and cozy that I plan on knitting many more. I am going to make some for my grandma during my visit so she can have some cozy socks.

That's it for now! Happy knitting!

I finished something!

Bankhead hat pattern by Susie Gourlay Hello all, it's been a little bit. I have been knitting away. I am still all over the place with the amount of current projects but I did finish a hat, and with stash yarn too! I had a skein of amazing Malabrigo worsted in the colorway Cadmium. This made a gorgeous hat. It was supposed to be for me but my daughter fell in love with it & snagged it.  New Cast Ons : 2 separate socks, both vanilla. I knitted one big tube from cuff to finished toe and today attempted the afterthought heel with no waste yarn. Um, it was a fail, I think. I picked up all my stitches above and below and then did the dreaded cut, but obviously cut in the wrong place because the stitches on my bottom knitting were falling off. I'm pretty sure I can still salvage them but was getting pretty frustrated so they may be in time out for at least a few days.  I did learn I love using the 9" circular for socks. I have been using a 32" magic loop but bo...

Going back

Echoes of Color cowl I love the electronic age for sure. Absolutely everything you can think of and more right there on your phone! But lately I've found myself reverting back to paper. For instance I do share an electronic calendar with my husband but I still have my paper planner with all the same things written down as well as to do lists and other notes in them. So I decided to do this with my knitting also. Beginning September 1st I started using a notebook for knitting. At the beginning of the month I write the month and year and make a list of goal FOs for the month, a list of happy yarny mail that will be coming that month & a wish list of things I'd like to buy that are yarny related. Then daily I write the date along with a few words what was going on that day as well as what I knitted. For example: MONDAY  17th: back hurting, school, husband started j...
